Our Tutors are Ontario Certified Teachers who understand the curriculum of core subjects and they share their knowledge with our students to help them strengthen their learning skills and increase their confidence on the path to academic success.
Our students in the junior grades often need help with the 3 core subjects which include English, math and science. Building a strong base of understanding is critical at this young age. Our sessions for these students often last Online 30 minutes and focus on them practicing the skills necessary for them to excel in future grades. Having students in a private 1 on 1 tutoring session often leads to answering questions they may have been afraid of asking in their regular classrooms.
Science 4-6: Habitats, Pulley systems, Light and sound, Rocks & Minerals, Human Organ systems, Forces on structures, forces in flight, Properties in Matter, Conservation of Energy, Ecology, Electricity, Space
Math 4-6: Whole numbers, adding and subtracting multiple digits, Decimals and Fractions, Multiplication and Division, Factoring and Number patterns, Fractions: Adding and Subtracting, Area, Perimeter, Volume, Measuring Angles, Converting Units, Coordinate Plane and Graphing, Statistical questions, Mean and Median numbers, 3D Geometric Shapes, Algebra variables substitution.
The subjects that we cover in the intermediate division range from science (chemistry, water systems, cells and organisms, ecosystems, space exploration, electricity) to mathematics (geometry, data management, probability, graphing linear and quadratic equations). These students are exposed to many new branches of science and mathematics which is why ensuring your son or daughter gets the help they need right away is so important. The design of the ontario curriculum may introduce students to a specific unit (eg. electricity) in grade 6 and your son or daughter will not see that unit again until grade 9 science. This can be challenging for them to learn something new along with every other course they have to take and this is where crunch time tutor can help.
Science 7-10: Interaction in the environment, Form and Function, Pure substances and mixtures, Heat in the Environment, Cells, Systems in action, Fluids, Water systems, Ecosystems, Atoms & Compounds, Space, Electricity, Tissues and Organ systems, Light & Optics, Climate Change and Chemical Reactions
Math 7 - 8: Data Management, Probability, Coordinate plane and graphing, Geometry, Volume and Surface Area, Fractions, Ratios, Decimals, Fractions, Irrational Numbers, Solving Equations with variables and Linear Functions
Math 9 - 10: Solving Equations, Exponent Laws, Linear Relationships and Graphing, Analytic Geometry, Quadratic Relationships and Graphing, Solving Problems with Optimal Values, Similar Triangles, Algebra and Trigonometry.
Students in the senior grades have decided which strand of math and science they want to focus on, for example chemistry vs. physics or Calculus and Vectors vs Data Management. These students are developing independent study skills they will need for their next steps whether it be more hands-on experiences through an internship or with a college or university program. At crunch time tutor we focus on these study skills as much as foster deep understanding in their coursework. Building good habits such as organization, privatization and time management are considered executive functions and are developed in adults ages 14 - 21. Which is why building these skills alongside their studies is crucial for the future success in any career path they choose.
Science 11 - 12: College and University strands of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, General Science, Earth and Space Science and Physics.
Math 11 - 12: Functions, Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, Data Management, Mathematics for College Technology.
